At the office or at the home, learning to properly express yourself to other people while maintaining control of your anger is a very important skill to possess. Some people may have different emotional triggers that set off their anger. The most common reason given by people who have lost control of their anger is because everyone started yelling. The actual event that may have occurred may be minor, but once people start to yell at each other, the situation escalates rather quickly. The actual words being yelled usually are not even remotely related to why everyone is getting angry in the first place.

Much like yawning, staying calm is contagious; if you are in a room where there may be an argument happening but no one is yelling at each other, there is a good chance the situation will resolve peacefully by using good communication.

First it’s a disagreement, then the screaming begins and finally the name calling and hurtful words come out. Try not to insult others or start to disrespect them in any form when they are in an agitated state, it is a sure fire method for making an angry situation worse.

Ask questions like “I understand your position, but let’s see what others think of it”. Another way to help control their anger is to use long winded questions that will give them time to think and respond, once you have their attention try to keep talking as long as possible.
There are times where people simply get under your skin and trigger an angry emotional response. If you feel yourself becoming irritated, feel confident that with better communication the outcome will almost always be amicable.
Ask a question like “If you were in my position, what do you think the answer should be”. If you are in a position of authority, you can end most conflicts by using statements like “this is an uncomfortable situation and we will discuss it later once we are calmed down”.

As a person who may have trouble controlling their anger, you know that building up rage everyday cannot be a good thing. Find someone who you can communicate to about anything related to anger; what bothered you that particular day, how you responded to a situation at work or what kind of skills you need to further develop to fully control your anger. The goal is usually not to only get feedback from whoever you are talking to, but is good therapy to hear your own true emotions out loud. Children and teenager anger seem to suffer the most without being able to communicate properly. Thinking a thought and expressing it in words will have a drastic difference on how you react to the overall idea.
